Football here refers to gridiron football (including American Football and Canadian Football).  Football is played on field marked with parallel lines resembling a gridiron.  The game is played between two teams of between 11 and 18 players.  The object of the game is to gain control of the ball and move it (by kicking or carrying it) to between two goalposts located on the opponent's side of the field to score points.
